UNIC Accra United Nations Regional Information Centre

Established and in operation since 1992. UNIC Windhoek was officially opened on 15 April 1996 by the Honourable Minister of Basic Education and Culture as part of the branch offices of the United Nations Department of Public Information. UNIC Windhoek provides up-to-date information on the United Nations and its activities to a wide audience in Namibia.

  • Pretoria, South Africa Sixteen UN information centres (UNICs) in sub-Saharan Africa, marking World Information Society Day, today launched new websites in an effort to bring the work of the United Nations closer to its local constituencies around the continent. 

  • In her latest Digital Diary, UNICEF Radio youth reporter Livey Van Wyk, 21, takes her recording equipment into the streets and youth centres of her community outside Windhoek , Namibia . She asks young people to talk to her about their country’s future and their thoughts about HIV/AIDS.

  • The United Nations World Food Programme today announced that unless it receives new contributions urgently it would be forced to halt food distributions to 90,000 orphans and vulnerable children in Namibia by the second half of December because of a critical shortage of funding.
