The Reference Library is a public information source for UN official documents and other information materials, including maps, photographs, posters, charts, reports and audio-visual materials. Information resources are constantly updated with current UN documentation produced by the Committees of the General Assembly and the substantive departments of the Secretariat. The library also host documentation produced by other UN Agencies, periodicals, reports, reference books and DPI publications. A UN video collection are retain, which is used by local broadcasting organizations, loaned to NGO’s and educational institutions.

Educational outreach
The librarian arranges for briefings and video screenings on a bi-monthly basis for groups of students as part of our educational outreach programmes. The centre focuses on setting up UN Book Corners in remote public libraries ensuring all Namibian have access to UN publications for reference purposes. The Information Assistant remains in daily contact with the national media to broaden its outreach. As member of the UNDP Communication Taskforce, the Information Assistant in cooperation with counterparts embarks on joint programmes to promote the UN and its activities in Namibia. Non-governmental organizations rely on UNIC as a partner and participate in organizing key events, seminars, exhibitions and the commemoration of United Nations observances.

Users
Main users of the library are: researchers, pupils, professors and students of universities and colleges, the local media, government officials, representatives of non-governmental organizations and the diplomatic community.

Effective Service
The librarian responds to request via fax, telephone, e-mail and in person. An up-to-date mailing list is maintained for the purpose of distributing and dissemination UN publications at no cost to the recipient. Internet Service is provided to the public free of charge; however searches are restricted to UN related and dducational issues.

Monday – Thursday: 8:00 – 13:00, 14:00 – 17:00
Friday:                      8:00 – 13:00
